Lakeville maintains a total of 62 public properties, which include a senior center, an arts and entertainment center, dozens of various neighborhood and community parks, and many miles of multipurpose trails. Lakeville contains several lakes as well as smaller ponds and wetlands within its borders. The two largest lakes include Lake Marion and Orchard Lake, which are recreational lakes used for fishing, boating and swimming. Lakeville also has many large farms which are still in operation, producing leading-revenues in corn, soybeans and dairy cattle.

Lakeville is served by Independent School Districts 192, the Farmington school district, which serves the eastern Lakeville area; 194 and 196; the Rosemount – Apple Valley – Eagan School District which serves the northeastern corner of Lakeville.

Lakeville boasts many notable former or current residents, among them: Elisabeth Bachman, Olympic volleyball player; John Kline, U.S. Representative and Kevin Kaesviharn, pro football player.
